CHAPTER ONE | A DREAM WITHIN A DREAM

This collection is an exploration of ethereal, innocent beauty contrasted with the notion of restriction and inhibition - an interpretation of the underlying themes from the infamous novel, Picnic at Hanging Rock.

We have explored the novel’s underlying themes of order & chaos and dreams versus reality.

Dramatic sleeves, detailed embroidery, high necklines, luxe fabrications and subtle detailing are the essence of this collection.

Our signature print, “Secret Garden” was designed in collaboration with artist Justine Missen. The soft underlying floral outlines, hidden at first sight, create the dreamlike secret garden, and all the flowers in this original design are inspired by those in the novel.

This artwork flows on to our vegetable tanned leather story ‘Roses in Silver Vases’ - heavily contrasted pieces that, although more

structured, when looking closer you’ll see the subtle beauty in the floral embroidery.

Lastly, every piece in the collection is hand finished with a treasured element of beading, silver work or embroidery - the personalized signature of all Van Der Kooij pieces. W e hope you enjoy the collection, our story of beauty & rebellion.
